{ "id": "basics-u3-l3-4-q09", "question": "According to 2 Peter 1, what is the first prerequisite for growth?", "answer": "The first prerequisite for growth is motivation. Before spiritual growth can ever become a reality, there has to be inner motivation—we have to want to grow, and that is a choice each of us must make for ourselves. This is why Peter says to apply all diligence: the word for \"apply,\" pareisphero, means to bring something in on your own, and it is placed first so that until we choose to contribute our own motivation and get with God's plan, we will not grow. Once we make that decision, we must stick to it with every ounce of diligence we have.", "url": "/faq/according-to-2-peter/", "unit": 3, "lesson": "3-4", "lesson_title": "The Climb—Spiritual Growth", "question_type": "comprehension", "tier": 1, "faq_class": "review", "aeo_questions": [ "What is the initial step for spiritual growth according to the apostle Peter in 2 Peter 1?", "What must I have in order to experience spiritual growth as described by 2 Peter 1?", "Why is motivation a necessary step before any actual spiritual growth can occur according to 2 Peter 1?", "What does pareisphero mean in 2 Peter 1:5?" ], "topic_anchor": null, "derivation": "voice-rewritten", "source_authority": "authoritative", "author": "Gene Cunningham", "book": "The Basics", "source": { "doc_id": "btbm-01-TheBasics-8-10-24", "ref": "The Basics, Unit 3, Lesson 3-4 -
