As Christians, why are we here?
The instant we are saved, God gives us three assignments that define the purpose of the rest of our lives. First, priesthood—our relationship to God: every believer is a priest who may come face-to-face with God, functioning through the study of the Word and prayer, staying in fellowship, and growing in grace (1 Pet. 2:5–9). Second, ambassadorship—our relationship to unbelievers: God has given us the ministry of reconciliation, so we urge men to be reconciled to God (2 Cor. 5:17–20). Third, ministry—our relationship to believers: our spiritual gift defines where we serve the Body of Christ (1 Cor. 12:7, 11; Rom. 12:1–8). No believer ever has to wonder, "What am I here for?"
