Why does God allow us to be tempted at all?

"Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. And let endurance have its perfect result, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing" (James 1:2–4). The word that dominates these verses is "consider," the Greek hegeomai—to add up the facts and let joy lead the way. The facts to weigh: God is faithful to limit testing to our spiritual and physical abilities; He works everything together for good for those who love Him; temptation is a trial of our faith, allowed with a view toward reward; and in adversity we have the opportunity to advance more rapidly in the faith.
